FM Starter - FM Starter

FM Starter is a starter file for new FileMaker projects. It allows you to start new projects instantly because all basics (e.g. navigation, user management, project structure) already are included. Therefore, you can immediately start working on your application. Practical, isn’t it? FM Starter has been continuously developed since 2014.

6 steps for a quick start

Download the software from your order
Create a backup and work with a copy
Watch the introductory video under Videos and the two under the title “Getting Started”.
Read the introduction from the manual
See how the file is organized (all windows, scripts, layouts, etc.)
Do a mini project (see below)

A mini project

New file, new project name
With every new project, the first step is to set the correct settings for the project.
You make all these settings in the developer dashboard.
Define the name of the new software and the version here.
Add a few pages in the navigation
Create a navigation. In the developer dashboard, look under Navigation. Here you create a structure for the new software with menu items and submenus. You may not have any pages yet, but here you can make a rough outline of the software in the simplest possible way before you get started. Don’t make it complex. The point here is simply to get to know FM Starter. Three to five entries is quite enough. Do not delete pages, just add them:
1. Create a new table (do not duplicate or delete anything!)
2. Create some pages based on this table
3. Add these new pages to the navigation (Developer Dashboard > Navigation).
Restart the file
Close the file and restart it: You should see the new name of the software as the window title, as well as a few more entries in the navigation.
Menus can be expanded to reveal submenu items.
The start has been made!
