Revamping the fmstarter.com website

A project in progress

We’ve been offline. For two weeks, to be precise. But now we’re back. At least for now. This website is being revamped, but not everything at once. A tremendous amount of work has been done during the past two weeks. By doing so, we paved the way for further optimizations.

The fmstarter.com website has been in use since over 10 years. Over the course of these years, multiple themes were used, tons of options were tested and many files were updated with newer versions. As a result, the site had accumulated tons of debris and became painstakingly slow. A clean-up was necessary.

The FM Starter website is based on WordPress, as probably most of the sites worldwide do. I love the system, but over time, the site got slower and slower. It was time to get it all cleaned up. That’s exactly what happened during the last 2 weeks. Today, the site has the same structure, but is substantially improved. It is not yet the fastest site, nor the best site. It is just better, and more improvements are needed.

Your accounts

Nothing changed visually. However, all download links had to be replaced. Download links had to be regenerated for all orders of the last year. If you happened to store any links on your system, they will no longer work. Check the download links from your account and orders.

If you have no downloads available, your order was over a year back. Check the information about updates in your account dashboard. It will tell you how much rebate a renewal can be purchased with. For any new purchase, the correct product-download-links will automatically be generated.

All products and free tools revamped

Not just the website has had an overhaul, but also all product files. That includes all free samples and add-ons. Some products just got a facelift. Other were marginally or even substantially improved. If you want to make sure you have the latest version, check the website now.

Courses

We have just a single course currently, on how to create FileMaker add-ons. It comes with Add-On Lab PRO, a tool to manage add-ons and their information. It’s perfect to get all the information straight. The course did not change, but the file Add-On Lab Pro has had a small facelift.

During the cleaning process of the website, we realized that the plug-in for courses did not work well in a multilingual environment anymore. This will change, and we’ll move to a different single-language website for courses to improve the experience.

FM Registrations, Version 1.9x

FM Registrations got a real update and if you purchased a copy during the last year, you will find the update in your account for download.

It’s not over yet

For you, it might look like the website did not change much. But it is massively simplified. That process has not been finished yet. Further adjustments will follow. The goal is to improve the offering and to simplify access. Thank you for your understanding during this transition.

If you see anything irregular, please drop us a line. This will help us to improve the offering.
