On the horizon
What Claris has already been showing and telling in their community talks:
- Integration of main AI systems (Claude, Codex and others).
- Every aspect of FileMaker will be accessible by AI: tables, fields, schemes, scripts, layouts and anything else.
- Think of these tasks: developing, bug-fixing, creating dashboards, reports, layouts or even creating solutions from scratch.
- All directly from within FileMaker. By the end of 2026 it is expected to roll out.
- This is not about a specific feature but rather about a direction of thought and FileMaker integration.
Why is this fascinating? It will profoundly change the way developers work. While some developers embrace new technologies, others are slower to adapt or refrain from using it. Whoever you are and whereever you stand, things will change. Those embracing AI with the help of new tools already will get native tools. Those refraining from using any of it will get native support to make it simpler to use.
A changing job profile
In a not too distant future, basics will probably be cared for by AI. Complex scripts can be handled with ease. Your task as a developer will start to be different. Everyone needs to find a different approach.
- What AI most likely will do better or quicker than you: Find the details, the bugs, alternative ways, write a script.
- What AI cannot do is to understand the goal of your project. It needs guidance. You are the guide.
You understand the business and the project. AI is a tool to achieve the goals. The tool you get is so powerful that some tasks no longer need to be in your focus. You can shift the focus of AI to these tasks or ask it to support and enhance your skills in a certain direction.
