Fixes for MacOS 14 Sonoma and PDF layouts
One danger in software development is adding more and more functions. Software solutions then tend to become confusing, cumbersome and therefore useless. With FrankCRM, we are currently trying to reduce to the maximum (“Reduce to the Max”). Less is more. However, it remains important to release bug fixes and minor improvements. The new version 1.6 is such a maintenance update.
PDF conflicts fixed
Sales documents can be output as PDF files. The files can be easily processed on Mac and opened and processed in most PDF solutions. However, there were isolated problems with Adobe Acrobat and on Windows.
This has now been localized: There may be isolated objects on the FileMaker layout that do not allow a PDF file to be opened under Adobe Acrobat. This applies in particular to line objects.
The print layouts for sales documents have therefore been revised in the current version. Individual lines were replaced. For the Swiss payment slip, the perforation lines have been replaced by a background graphic. This seems to have solved all the problems for the time being.
Swiss QR Code
FrankCRM supports Swiss QR codes and has integrated a complete payment slip. However, anyone who has updated to MacOS 14 Sonoma has noticed significant problems. Although the QR codes were generated, they were often not saved back into the data records. Processing was interrupted. The phenomenon occurs under both FileMaker Pro 19 and 20 and is related to the update to MacOS 14 Sonoma. It seems that JavaScript is processed much more slowly in the web viewer.
A delay has been built into the HTML template for generating the QR code. Everything works as before.

Maintenance updates are important. They improve the original file. This update is about minor improvements and important bug fixes. We recommend every user to update to the new version.
Update for the free version
The update for the free version can be downloaded directly via the same download link that you received during the initial download. If you don’t have this link anymore or not yet, you can request the link here:
If you already use the free version yourself, proceed as follows:
- Download new version
- Open new version with default details
- Start the import under Administrator > Import
- After selecting the old file, the data will be imported into the new version.
- Now the new version is ready for use. The old version can be archived.
Update for full versions
License holders obtain the update for the full version directly from their account on fmstarter.com. All adjustments for version 1.5 have been listed in the “ToDo Window”. It also describes which steps are necessary for an update if you have already started a project.
Those who buy a full version can use it “as is” and then also benefit from the import functions. If you have already added your own tables, it is best to check the changes in the new file and then decide which ones you want to adopt for your own solution. Because there are hints for each customization, this can be implemented quickly.

FM Starter is a proven startup file for new FileMaker projects. Included are both a project structure and a set of basic functions that are needed in almost every FileMaker project. These include dynamic navigation, multilingual text labels, user management and many more. FM Starter is therefore also suitable as a learning project for FileMaker novices. Developers can use this file immediately as a starting point or add their own functions to it first.

Bugfixes and new functions
About three weeks ago, FrankCRM was released in a first version. Since then, there have been regular small updates to meet the requests and feedback from early adopters. Version 1.4 now adds even new features.
New functions
How to create a trial version has been completely redesigned to make the settings clearer to manage. Corresponding settings pages have been added to the developer dashboard for the full version of FrankCRM.
There are now two ways to control access to the software in the full version:
- Trial version (new)
Here we are talking about a few parameters and a simple limitation. This is perfect for simply creating a trial version. We recommend using FileMaker’s developer tools to export a trial version without administration. This makes the delivery of a trial version particularly easy and secure. - FM Registrations
FrankCRM is based on FM Starter and therefore has an integrated unlock module for FM Registrations. FM Registr ations is an optional product that can be used to create activation codes for your own FileMaker solutions. They can be easily decoded in FrankCRM and the information can be integrated as desired.
Both options are available in a full version of FrankCRM.
When creating a product, you can activate automatic generation of article numbers and product description. This is where discrepancies arose. The implementation has been simplified and improved.
Bugfixes
After the first release, new versions were released almost daily. This was used to counter initial feedback. In the free version, a few scripts did not work as they should. All of this has been cleaned up. In particular, it was about these two things:
- The navigation of buttons led to wrong pages
- An automatic creation of article numbers led to frequent number changes.
These two bugs have been fixed. The version runs stable and is so in use.

New versions of FrankCRM are made available through the same links used to obtain products. You don’t have to request a new download if you still have the link.
- Free version: Here you use the same link that you received for the first download. You create a new request via:
- Full version: This is downloaded directly from your order. All products come with 1 year of free downloads included. After that, the downloads for the full version expire. Renewal at a discounted price is possible.
Import of the old data
When downloading a new version of FrankCRM, the data from the last file can be easily imported. The function is located on the left side of the menu, as an option for the administrator. You open the new version and close the old version. After that select “Import data” on the “Import” layout.
The import runs fully automatically. However, keep in mind that the import only takes into account the tables that are included in the original version of FrankCRM. If you want to import your own tables later, this requires development effort.

Bug fixes and improvements
FM Starter is now available in version 2.8. The update does not bring any big innovations, but a number of smaller improvements and bug fixes.
The changes include the following adjustments:
- Developer dashboard: Current account name can be added to the developer list with a click.
- The global navigation automatically adjusts the window size. For this purpose, a minimum window width can now be specified.
- Ukrainian was added for automatic translation with DeepL.
- The login page has been optimized.

What is FM Starter?
FM Starter is a startup file for new FileMaker projects. The file accelerates and simplifies new projects by making frequently needed building blocks (navigation, multilingualism, project structure, user management, etc.) immediately available. New projects can be launched quickly.

The latest update of FM Starter offers several small improvements as well as bug fixes. An important new feature in version 2.6 is support for multiple developer accounts.
FM Starter is a startup file for FileMaker. As a FileMaker file, it has of course always supported any number of accounts. However, in order for the developer to get some tweaks and special menus, you had to sign up through a specific developer account. This restriction has now been lifted. Any number of accounts can be listed as “Developers”.
This works as follows:
Developer accounts must always be set up directly in FileMaker security settings. Once such an account is created, you can list the account in the developer dashboard. The next time the file is launched, the login will now be recognized as a “developer account” and additional features will be unlocked.
There is now a new “Developers” entry in the developer dashboard.
On the Developers page, you can now list the account names of the developer accounts. The entries should be saved afterwards.
The settings are recognized in the Startup Script and processed accordingly. Security is not compromised because this script only takes effect after the login has already taken place.
Those who have a current license can download the update directly from their own account.

The «UserAccounts» module for managing FileMaker accounts in FM Starter has been updated
FM Starter just received a new update. The new version 2.4 is a maintenance update with various small optimizations and bug fixes. User management got a useful new feature.
Name and password
FM Starter, our starter file for new FileMaker projects, offers various modules for new projects. Below this is a user administration called «UAC User Accounts». In this user administration, administrators can create new accounts for users and define access data, rights, a default language and start and end dates.
Previously, user name and user password were specified. The username corresponded to the email address and the password was randomly generated by an algorithm.
Name and password can now also be set manually. In certain circumstances this can be helpful. If you switch to manual assignment, you can trigger the change at any time by redefining the access rights. This process is necessary because the user table is just an interface between users and FileMaker accounts. These two must be synchronized whenever there is a change. The new definition of access rights ensures this synchronization.

Version 1.70 comes with various simplifications

Kursiv Software has just released version 1.70 of FM Registrations. This update is all about FM Unlock, a module with which license keys from FM Registrations can be restored decrypt permit. FM Unlock is a module and now also an add-on. Depending on the FileMaker version you are working with, you can use the module or the add-on to integrate the functions in your own solutions. This is now particularly easy with the add-on.

Anyone who already uses FM Starter does not have to worry about integrating FM Unlock. The module is already part of FM Starter and can be easily switched on or off there in the developer dashboard. The last update of FM Starter already integrated the new layouts of FM Unlock and is therefore up to date.

Various minor and a few major changes
The current update for FM Starter includes bug fixes, minor improvements, and a few major changes. The aim of this update was to make FM Starter easier and clearer.
